Jonathan Davenport swept the night at Atomic Speedway Sunday night by setting fast time , winning his heat race , then leading all but two laps to finish off the night. Mike Marlar took runner spot with Saturday's winner Devin Moran taking third. Jimmy Owens and Bobby Pierce completed the top five.
42 Lucas Oil Late Models filled the pits in Alma,Ohio. Heat race wins went to JD , Pierce , Owens , and Marlar. B Mains went to Max Blair and Drake Troutman.
They put water down on the track and packed it before the start of the 50 lap main event. During the preliminaries it was a fine line on top of the track right up against the wall. When the green flag waved "Superman" soared out to the front. Around lap 14 while in heavy lapped traffic Mike Marlar slid by to lead laps 15 and 16 but Davenport went back by the "Winfield Warrior"
At that time the top five were all right together before the yellow waved for Boom Briggs. When the green came back out Davenport continued to lead with Marlar stalking behind the white 49.
Lap 30 the yellow waved once again as Josh Rice and R.J. Conley made contact and Rice came to a stop and so did his evening. Under the yellow 7th running O'Neal had a right rear going down and had to come in to get it changed. The Rumley crew got it swapped for a new one and rejoined the field.
Davenport would lead the rest of the way to take the $12,000 win over a half a second in front of Marlar. The win was his 73rd career win on the tour. Next Lucas race is April 26th in Delaware as Ricky Thornton Jr continues to wear the orange spoiler after two top ten finishes this weekend. He holds a slim five point advantage over Davenport.
