Devin Moran Doubles Down

Devin Moran is off to a hot start in the Double Down Motorsports LazyDays RV Longhorn Chassis winning night 2 at Volusia Speedway Park holding off a hard charging Tim McCreadie.

The night kicked off with 48 late models taking time. Group A qualifying top honors would go to Chris Madden and holding on to take top overall qualifier by .001 over Group B fastest qualifier Tyler Bruening.

The six heat race winners would be Madden , Blair , Hoffman , Thornton Jr , Strickler , and Moran. The big story from the heat races would be in the 5th heat. Pole sitter Bobby Pierce hurt another Vic Hill powerplant and withdrew the 32 Longhorn Chassis from the night. Also Tanner English went to the backup car placing him on the tail of the heat race and moving up to a 4th place finish in the heat.

The B Mains would go to Daulton Wilson , Ryan Gustin , and Tanner English. Provisionals went to 2023 Rookie of The Year contender Payton Freeman and Cade Dillard. Emergency Provisionals were filled by Jimmy Owens and Bobby Pierce. Pierce jumped in the Big Frog Motorsports 58 that Scott Bloomquist drove last night but stepped out tonight for Chris Ferguson to drive. Fergy failed to make it into the 25 lap feature.

Ricky Thornton Jr. and Nick Hoffman would lead the 28 car field to green with RTJR grabbing the early race lead over Hoffman Strickler Moran and Madden. "The Highside Tickler" lived up to his moniker by running hard on the cushion but unfortunately jumped the cushion on each end of the track on lap 2. Nick Hoffman would pass for the lead before coming around on lap 3 as the outside line was the early groove of choice for speed.

The caution would wave on lap 7 for Mark Whitener as he would retire with damage from the guardrail. While the caution was out the B1 Bomber Brent Larson would duck to the hot pit pointing in the direction of his RF. He had a crew guy make an adjustment to his RF shock and would rejoin the field. Also under the yellow the reigning Dirt Track World Championship winner , Garrett Smith, would pull in and the crew removing the hood to discover a faulty oil pump ending his night prematurely.

When the green replaced the yellow Moran would quickly remove Hoffman from the race lead and shortly after they crossed the line the yellow would wave once again this time for the "Newport Nitemare" Jimmy Owens in turn 4 with some sort of front end issue.

On lap 9 Max Blair would move up to 4th but would be short lived as on the next lap Chris Madden would take the 4th spot. At the halfway mark your leaderboard would read the 99 of Moran out in front followed by Hoffman , Thornton , Madden , and Tim McCreadie.

With 5 to go Nick Hoffman's tire seemed to be fading as both Thornton and T-Mac would pass the "Thrill from Mooresville" for 2nd and 3rd as both drivers was gaining on Moran for the lead.

As they took the white flag McCreadie would pass Thornton and was charging hard on last night's winner Moran but came up just short when the checkers were waving as Devin Moran would hold onto capture his 11th career World of Outlaws Series feature win. Tim McCreadie would settle for the runner up finishing position and Ricky Thornton Jr. rounded out the podium in third place. The remaining top 5 would be taken by Hoffman and Madden would spoil the Longhorn top 5 finishing 5th in a Rocket XR1 Chassis.

Tomorrow will be the finale of the Sunshine Nationals as they will battle for $20,000 to win and can only be seen on DirTVision. Will Moran sweep the weekend or can anyone outside of a Longhorn Chassis break their early dominance? Stay tuned to LOUD PEDAL REPORT and find out!
