Ryan Gustin had a clean sweep Friday night at Volusia Speedway. He started the night off by setting fast time, then won his heat, and ended the night celebrating in victory lane. Jonathan Davenport took runner up honors with hard charging Cody Overton rounding out the podium from his 23rd starting spot. Ethan Dotson and Tim McCreadie rounded out the top 5.
57 Late Models took time for the World of Outlaws sanctioned Sunshine Nationals. Besides Gustin other heat race winners were Pierce,Davenport, Dotson,Brandon Overton, and Nick Hoffman.
The track was fast and not very wide from the saturated grounds. The crew worked on it all night trying to give the drivers a better track to race on.
The heat race winners went to the redraw to determine their starting spots for the 35 lap $12,000 to win feature. Hoffman drew the pole as Gustin drew the outside front row starting spot.
Hoffman would lead the first 16 laps until the "Reaper" worked around him. Just a lap later Hoffman would take a spin to bring out the yellow.
It was anything but easy after that for Gustin as the car started to overheat. Ryan later said in victory lane he was pointing to the engine to car owner Todd Cooney and Cooney motioned to stay out and keep going. Keep going is what Gustin did and won by over and second and a half over runner up Jonathan Davenport.
Tonight's feature will pay $20,000 to the winner. If you aren't there in person you can catch all the action on DIRTVision.
