Overton with Thornton alongside him would lead the field to green with Brandon jumping out to the early lead. The Evans,Ga driver looked comfortable in front of the pack as the running order behind the black Longhorn by Wells Motorsports would be the Rocket house car of O'Neal,RTJ,Larson, and Pearson Jr.
The 4/10th mile track had some character to it tonight and it was full of speed but in the feature most of the field chose the bottom groove but if you wanted to be elbows up on the cushion it was there. The first yellow would make an appearance on lap 10 as G.R. Smith came to a stop in turn 2 while running 7th as a wiring gremlin bit his chances of a good run tonight.
Overton would lead O'Neal and the rest of the field back to green and the Martinsville,In driver would overdrive turn 2 and get over the cushion falling back to 4th then losing that position to Daulton Wilson. Meanwhile Larson would begin his battle for the runner up spot with Thornton before the yellow would make its final appearance for Will Herrington as he broke a RF shock ending his night.
Overton leads Larson,RTJ,Wilson and O'Neal back to green and stayed that way until halfway when O'Neal would trade spots with Wilson. Lap 26 is when things got real racy with the lead trio of 76,20,and the 6. Larson chose the cushion as the other two were more comfortable on the bottom.
Ricky would take the lead on lap 29 as Dennis Erb Jr made an appearance in the top 5 passing Wilson. Lap 40 Larson would officially take 2nd but before then at times the top 3 were pretty much 3 wide for the lead.
Larson would get over the turn 2 cushion a lap later losing his momentum as Overton would challenge the 20 again for the lead before he did the same thing in turn 4. Thornton was following the tail of the lead lap car of Ross Robinson on the bottom as Larson gained his cushion momentum and challenged again for the lead.
Larson would smash the LOUD PEDAL down and take the 50 lap $12,000 win in front of the Thornton and Overton as once again in 2023 there was a Longhorn Chassis sweep of the podium. Larson would go to the scales off the track and when he came back out to celebrate got a little over zealous and spun into the turn 3 and 4 wall. He would say later in victory lane that his car was tight and knew better to not to do that but he was so pumped up over that victory.
Unfortunately for the race fans he will not be racing tomorrow as he will be attending Rick Hendrick's 50th wedding anniversary as the Lucas Oil Late Model drivers will be going 60 laps paying a Golden Isles Speedway record $25,000.
