Mike Marlar led all but two laps at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick , Georgia over Brandon Sheppard and fast qualifier Chris Madden. The Lucas Oil Deuces Wild event combines the Late Model Series with High Limit Sprint Cars.
45 Lucas Oil Late Models took time with Chris Madden topping both groups with Marlar taking top time in Group B qualifying.
Madden and Marlar both took their heat race wins to start on the front row of the 50 lap $20,000 to win main event. Jonathan Davenport and Brandon Sheppard collected the other two heat races wins.
B-Main wins went to Max Blair and Garrett Smith.
The High Limit Sprints ran their feature first and after their feature officials decided to rework the track for the Late Models.
Chris Madden would lead the first lap before the "Redhorn" 157 of Mike Marlar took the lead and pretty much controlled the race from that point on.
Madden would fall back as he would later say his car was tight early and would recover to join Marlar and BShepp on the podium.
Brandon Sheppard would officially lead one lap of the feature in the Longhorn Factory House Car. Sheppard has been fast in Speedweeks but qualifying has made the team work hard to charge through the field for his good finishes. They had speed from the beginning to start fourth as that team will be hard to deal with as the season goes on.
The winner Marlar would thank his new owner Greg Bruening and crew in victory lane as they go home to get ready for the rest of the season. He was glad the team didn't overreact to the track rework as they had confidence in their base car setup and it showed during the 50 lap race.
Now the series will take a few weeks off before going to Atomic Speedway on March 22nd.
