The Southern Nationals jumped on board to sanction the Finn Watson Memorial race at Ponderosa Speedway last night and the only thing that slowed Mike Marlar down was an issue with the track lights that caused a delay. Once the issue was fixed Marlar led flag to flag in the caution free $10,000 53 lap memorial race. Garrett Smith finished second and Brandon Sheppard rounded out the podium.
Marlar started his perfect night off with topping the 14 car field in qualifying. He would hold off BShepp to take his heat race win to start on the pole for the feature. Garrett Smith took the other heat race win.
As the field was lining up the lights went out in turns 1 & 2 causing a delay for repairs to be made. It was the first race of the year at "Kentucky's Baddest Bullring" located in Junction City , KY as they have been rained out for their other 2 races. During the offseason promoter Brandon Hardgrove added new dirt to the racing surface.
Once the green flag waved Marlar blasted out to the lead and no one ever got close to the Skyline Motorsports red 157 Longhorn. Ponderosa is one of the "Winfield Warrior" favorite tracks as him and his family all race at the speedway. Brothers Camaron and Skylar both were there last night as well as father David who races in the Hobby Stock division. Skylar pulled double duty as he also brought the Crate Late Model but unfortunately suffered a DNF while leading as well as David in his Hobby Stock.
Unfortunately tonight's Southern Nationals race down the road at Lake Cumberland has been claimed by Mother Nature. The next race for Ponderosa will be June 21st as the Case Construction World of Outlaws rolls into town
