Marlar Wins at The Gap

Mike Marlar , from Winfield Tennessee , takes the $30,000 XR Series payday at Volunteer Speedway. Marlar would hold off Devin Moran and Jonathan Davenport.

34 Super Late Models signed in with Brandon Overton taking top qualifier honors. He would also win his heat placing him on the pole for the A Main.

Jonathan Davenport , Dale McDowell, and Marlar won the other heat races. B Main wins went to Michael Brown and Will Roland to fill out the field.

Dale McDowell would jump out to the early lead over Overton to lead lap one. These two drivers both won last weekend in Tennessee on the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals Series at I75 and Tazewell. Unfortunately for both of them they wouldn't have repeat performances as McDowell broke a driveshaft while leading on lap 14. Overton would end up 11th after a tangle with Jimmy Owens on lap 12.

Marlar inherited the lead then had to hold off a charging Devin Moran at the end to secure the win by .216. He went around Davenport just past the halfway point of the 60 lap A Main.

Chris Ferguson would take fourth from his 14th starting spot and Daulton Wilson rounded out the top 5. Hard Charger Tyler Erb went from 23rd to take 6th.

They will run Friday's postponed program later today at Volunteer Speedway paying $12,000 to the winner.
