Dillon McCowan picked up his first career MARS win last night at Kankakee Speedway over Bob Gardner and Kye Blight. Allen Weisser and Kevin Weaver rounded out the top five in a race that saw five lead changes and plenty of passing.
The night started off with Mike Harrison setting fast time over the 28 entries. The three heat race winners were Harrison , McCowan , and last year's MARS champion Jason Feger. Tommy Sheppard Jr. took the last chance win to make the 40 lap main event.
Jake Little led the field to green but it was Australia's Kye Blight that would lead the first lap. He would lead until lap 11 as Feger got around him but it was short lived for Feger as his RR gave out on him bringing out the yellow. The crew gave him a new Hoosier and rejoined the race. He would come from the rear to finish 6th.
The biggest accident of the night came out on lap 19 for Mike Harrison. Harrison was battling for second with eventual winner , McCowan , when Harrison jumped the turn 2 cushion and hit the backstretch wall causing him to land on his roof. He was thankfully not injured but was done for the night.
McCowan used a lap 35 restart to take the lead and win away from Blight but later said while under that caution he felt his RR shaking as if it was going flat on him. It had just enough to get the lead and the win as it was flat in victory lane.
The series goes to Highland Speedway tonight for the $5.000 to win race. Allen Weisser goes into tonight with the point lead over Tommy Sheppard Jr and Bob Gardner. Catch all the action on FloRacing
