McDowell Hunts The Front Takes Advantage of Winger's Heartache

Photo Credit - Zachary Washington (Simple Moments Photography)

Just when it seemed like he had one slipped away from him Dale McDowell took one away when race leader Ashton Winger lost a right rear tire taking the white flag at Rome Speedway. Joseph Joiner came home second leaving Rome with the series point lead. Tyler Millwood would round out The Hunt The Front podium finishing 3rd.

26 Late Models timed in with Dale McDowell taking the top time spot. Heat races went to McDowell , Herrington , and Winger.

In the feature McDowell would jump out to the lead over pole sitter Wil Herrington. Then came at the time a race changing moment when the yellow came out on lap 25. The yellow waved when McDowell slowed but blended in immediately at speed behind Winger and Zack Mitchell. Needless to say there was a lot of confusion as what was going on as McDowell did not realize they threw the caution for him and after a lengthy caution to sort the running order out the green flag waved with Winger as the leader and McDowell moved to 3rd place.

Back to green flag racing action with Winger out in front until his right rear started to fail on him. As he came to the white flag he couldn't keep his leading pace allowing McDowell to take the lead and the win. Winger would limp home to a 6th place finish.

The series is off until September 29th for a $5,000 to win race at Talladega Short Track.
