Devin Moran led most of the race before losing the lead to Hudson O'Neal after a restart then taking the lead from Ryan Gustin on the final turn final lap to capture his first career XR win. Bobby Pierce came from the tail to round out the podium.
Garrett Alberson topped the 18 car field at Kokomo for the $15,000 XR Super Series Monday Night Spotlight. The car count suffered a little being sandwiched between Eldora along with the start of the UMP Summer Nationals and Lucas Oil Series having a $50,000 to win race this weekend at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Alberson and Moran won the heat races.
The excitement started before the drop of the green as Bobby Pierce was late to staging due to some miscommunication moving him to the tail for the feature. Pierce was originally slated to start ninth.
Moran jumped out to the lead that he would hold until lap lap 43 when Garrett Alberson got into the wall. On the restart Hudson O’Neal would slide into the lead.
Lap 47 would find the second and final yellow wave for Tyler Erb and Jason Feger. The restart would find Moran returning the favor and slid O'Neal back for the lead. Slowing both of them down allowing Gustin to pass them both to take the lead with 2 to go. Pierce was charging as well from the tail and was on the outside trying to find a way to the lead but couldn't find a hole. Gustin went into turn 4 leading but it was Moran coming to the checkers for the win on the bottom. At the line Moran , Gustin , and Pierce were all 3 under a blanket.
As Moran went to the scales O'Neal retaliated and made contact with Moran's car. The series disqualified O'Neal from the event. Moran would later say he didn’t know why he was the one upset that O'Neal started it but oh well we won he didn't. He went in there and parked it on my nose so I returned the favor.
The next series race will be on July 1 at Gondik Law Speedway in Wisconsin paying $15,000
