Devin Moran fought off repeated challenges from two former Silver Dollar Nationals champions , Pierce and Sheppard , to win his highest paying career win last night at Huset's Speedway.
Devin Moran started outside pole alongside Pierce , who won both preliminary nights , led all 80 laps but it wasn't easy for the Double Down Motorsports driver. Pierce and Sheppard would battle each other most of the race for second while each took their jabs at the winner but couldn't get a pass to stick.
Moran rode the cushion most of the race but could run the bottom too. Moran would say in victory lane he had an issue with the carburetor the last 25 laps. It was spitting fuel on the driver's shield and while holding off challenges for the lead he was having to wipe the gas going down the straightaway.
Moran came into the race weekend on a streak of top 4 finishes for the last month as he continues to stay in the top 4 Lucas Oil point standings.
Pierce and Sheppard , who both follow World of Outlaws , can't get away from each other. The two Illini drivers seem to finish close to each other as Sheppard holds the point lead in that series as they head to Prarie Dirt Classic at Fairbury.
The next Lucas Oil race is the 42nd annual North/South 100 paying $75,000 to the winner. Ricky Thornton Jr still holds the point lead.
