There is no one happier than Brandon Overton that the Southern Nationals Series has 53 lap features instead of 50 because it took "Big Sexy" 52 laps to go under Dale McDowell to steal the win from his fellow Georgian. Sam Seawright , Ricky Weiss , and Trey Mills rounded out the top five.
39 Late Models filled the pits of I-75 located in Niota , TN. Cory Hedgecock topped Group A qualifying but Dale McDowell took overall fast time coming out of Group B. Hedgecock was leading his heat when he slipped off the track to bring out the yellow. When they went to take the green he was involved with another car ending his night. Camaron Marlar took the lead then he too would suffer mechanical issues ending his promising night. Trey Mills would inherit the lead and take the heat race win. Other heat winners were Jimmy Owens , McDowell , and Stormy Scott. Owens was forced to pull out the backup car as he too had a mechanical issue. B Main winners were Brad Dyer and Rusty Ballenger.
The young Trey Mills would take the green flag with the "Professor" Dale McDowell alongside. Mills led the first three laps before the veteran slipped past him and started to pull away from the field. Meanwhile Overton , who started 8th , was steadily passing cars.
With a handful laps to go "MacDaddy" struggled to get around a slower car as Overton was reeling him in. Once the leader cleared the lapped car it took Overton a couple of laps to pass it as well allowing McDowell to stretch out a little.
Once the Wells Motorsports 76 got around it he started to reel the leader in once again knowing the laps were running out. As they took the white nose to tail to each other Overton made the winning move in turn 2. McDowell protected the top making Overton go to the bottom and completed the pass on exit of the corner. McDowell finished just .296 behind his buddy Overton.
