A familiar face once again visited All-Tech victory lane as Ricky Thornton Jr won by over eight seconds Friday night. Daulton Wilson would finish second with outside pole sitter Spencer Hughes finishing third. Hughes led the first 28 laps before RTJ and Wilson worked around the Mississippi driver.
46 Lucas Oil Late Models took time on a fast All-Tech surface. Garrett Alberson shattered the track record in qualifying then won his heat for the right to start the 50 lap feature from the pole. Hughes topped Group B and won his heat giving him the outside pole. The other two heat race winners were Thornton and O'Neal. B Main winners were Terbo Tyler Erb and Ryan Gustin.
The fast slimy surface caused a lot of carnage all night long. Drake Troutman climbed the wall in his heat and right behind him the Rocket1 of Brandon Sheppard climbed the wall and rolled over. BShepp said he seen the 22 get in the wall and when he hit the brakes it just slid into the wall. The Rocket1 team unloaded the backup forcing them to take a provisional. BShepp charged to finish seventh when the checkers fell in the feature.
In the main event the yellows were frequent. Turn two claimed many drivers throughout the feature. The first one was eighth starting Jimmy Owens forcing him to be the first retiree of the night.
Back to the racing action Spencer Hughes would fire off good on each restart holding everyone else behind him. At one time Wilson,RTJ,and Hudson O'Neal were battling three wide for the second spot before Thornton began to take charge. He would catch Hughes on lap 27 to officially lead lap 28.
Thornton just kept pulling away from the field. His crew were telling him he had a huge lead and later said in victory lane that his car was so tight he couldn't slow down and didn't want to risk wrecking the Koehler Motorsports owned Longhorn Chassis. The crew went back home after Golden Isles and rebuilt the car before traveling back south to Florida. The hard work has paid off with back to back wins.
"The Big Perm" Daulton Wilson had a fast Longhorn Chassis but just not as fast as the 20RT. The consistent runs by the James Ratliff owned team has Wilson second in the points behind Moran. Moran continues his top 5 runs at the Florida half mile.
Early leader Hughes was strong all night long but had a hurt motor at the end of the night. The track was heavy almost giving an East Bay look on all the cars. Every car had mud all over the noses and right side of the cars.
Tonight is the last night of the three race swing at All-Tech with a $15,000 payday. Will RTJ sweep the weekend or can someone knock off the 20RT? Catch all the action live on FloRacing.
