Ricky Thornton Jr took advantage of Daulton Wilson's bad luck and turned it into a $10,000 payday last night at Circle City in Indinapolis,IN. Tyler Erb took second over last year's winner Josh Rice.
26 Northern All Stars signed into Circle City with Daulton Wilson setting fast time and took his heat race. The other heat race winners were Josh Rice and Zak Blackwood.
At the drop of the green Wilson bolted out to the early race lead appearing to be on his way of sweeping the night until lap 21. Seth Daniels was coming to a stop as Wilson was charging to put distance between him and second place running Thornton. Wilson made contact with the Daniels machine damaging his car and chances of winning.
On the restart with the body hanging off Wilson's car . Rice would slide by both Wilson and RTJ to lead one lap before the #1 ranked dirt late model driver took the lead and controlled the rest of the way.
Erb would get by Rice on lao 38 but had no chance to chase down RTJ finsihing nearly three seconds behind the SSI Motorsports Longhorn. Tanner English would take 4th with the 2022 winner James Rice rounding out the top 5.
The victory was the first for Thornton at Circle City and his second win on the James Essex tour. It was also the first race Thornton has finished at the Cental Indiana bullring as he broke while leading in last year's race. He was wondering if bad luck was going to bite him again when he broke a crank trigger in hot laps but got it repaired in time for time trials.
The Northern All Stars will travel down to Lawrenceburg ,IN tonight for a $5,000 to win show. Lawrenceburg Speedway is a beautiful river town located along the Ohio River and the speedway sits inside one of the top facilites you'll ever see at a dirt track. Catch it on Dirt2Media if you can't be there in person.
