Brian Shirley is on a hot streak as last night he won his second straight World of Outlaws feature and third of the year at Maquoketa Speedway in Iowa. Ryan Gustin using the high line took the runner up honors with Tyler Bruening rounding out the podium as he continues his string of good finishes.
Night 1 of the Hawkeye 100 would see 34 cars in the pits with Cody Overton taking fast time honors. Unfortunately for Overton his night would go downhill from there. In his heat race while running 2nd he would get sideways on the last lap last turn as Max McLaughlin hit the 97 in the driver's door. Overton would not finish the heat as leader Bruening was already taking the checkers for the win. Other winners were Gustin , Pierce , and Shirley. B Main wins went to Cody Laney and Dustin Sorensen.
Tyler Bruening drew the pole and took charge at the drop of the green. Just a few laps later "Squirrel" showed the field how good of a car he had and took the lead. Bobby Pierce would move into 2nd and tried to challenge Shirley for the lead several times as Ryan Gustin went to the top side of the track and was making alot of speed while the leaders were running the bottom.
Gustin would get around Pierce on Lap 34 but never could get around Shirley for the win as he fell .875 short of the win. Bruening would get past Pierce with 2 laps to go to secure the podium finish as Pierce fell to 4th with a tire going down. Cade Dillard rounded out the top 5.
It was a rough night for point leaders Sheppard and Hoffman as both drivers finished outside the top 10. BShepp finished 11th with Hoffman 21st. Pierce overtook Hoffman for 2nd in the standings 58 markers behind BShepp.
Tonight's feature will be 60 laps with $20,000 on the line. DIRTVision will have it live if you can't make it Maquoketa
