I think its safe to say that Ricky Thornton Jr. has put The Show-Me-100 droop behind him as he wins for the 2nd race in a row since the post race tech infraction picking up the 30 lap Lucas Oil win at West Virginia Motor Speedway. Tim McCreadie would take the runner up spot as Daulton Wilson rounded out the podium after leading the first 19 laps.
26 Lucas Oil Late Models would sign in for Night 1 of The Historic 100 paying $10,000 to the winner. Ricky Thornton Jr. would take top time honors and win his heat race. The other winners were Daulton Wilson and T-Mac. No B Mains were needed.
When the green flag dropped pole sitter RTJ would slide the nose up the track hitting a hole in turn 2 allowing Wilson to take the early lead and Owens to go around Thornton for 2nd as Thornton settled in 3rd.
That trio would run the same order as around lap 16 would be almost nose to tail as they put cars a lap down with Owens looking under Wilson and Thornton was trying to find an opening to go around Owens.
Lap 19 would be the lap that Thornton would go around Owens in turn 2 and almost got Wilson for a 2 for 1 move but used the long back straightaway to set up the winning pass in turn 4 diving under Wilson then sliding in front of him on exit.
Lap 21 Tim McCreadie would get by Owens for 3rd as Owens seemed to be losing grip. The lone yellow flag waved on lap 22 as Boom Briggs slowed. Under the yellow Earl Pearson Jr, would dive down to change a right rear and rejoin the field on the tail.
On the restart Thornton got a much better take off then he did on the initial start of the race and would comfortably go on for the win. T-Mac would fire off better than Wilson to take 2nd with Wilson once again coming so close to earning that first Lucas Oil win settled for 3rd. Hudson O'Neal would pass Owens for 4th with 6 laps to go and "The O Show" rounded out the top 5.
Tonight will be a complete show with qualifying, heats,BMain (if needed) and 50 lap Main Event paying $50,000 to the winner. As always if you can't be there in live in person catch it on FloRacing.
