Ricky Weiss slipped under race leader Trey Mills on lap 30 to claim the Hunt the Front season opener at I-75 Raceway last night. Daulton Wilson would finish .603 behind the winner with Cory Hedgecock rounding out the podium. Trey Mills and Dalton Cook filled out the top five.
44 Late Models filled the pits with Ryan Gustin taking top time honors. Ricky Weiss, Camaron Marlar, Gustin, and Mills took heat race wins. B Main winners were Austin Smith and Mike Marlar.
Before the feature they made the decision to rework the track. After about one hour of work the green flag waved with the teenager Trey Mills pacing the first 30 laps.
Weiss would say in victory lane he noticed Mills was getting tight on exit and that's where he made his winning move. He noticed Jimmy Owens using that line in the race. The winner also thanked Owens as the two drivers talked tires during the intermission.
The win gives two wins in a row in Tennessee for Weiss. Last weekend he won the Toilet Bowl at Clarksville Speedway. Originally from Canada Weiss resides in Tennessee during the racing season then goes back home to visit family in the off season.
Wilson came from 7th starting to position to claim the runner up position. Hedgecock, who lives nearby the Raceway, came from 12th to finish 3rd. Hedgecock won a series race late last season at I-75.
The next series race will be at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian Mississippi on March 28th.
